Music and What Is Going On Around The World
It all begins with an idea.
Year by year music has had a bigger and bigger impact on the upcoming generations and as music gets bigger we tend to discover different genres. These last 3 years has been very difficult as Covid-19 has affected the way we live and the state of our mental being. Not only has Covid-19 done that but social media has taken a bigger tole on many younger peoples mental health.
Social media’s impact on the world has done worse than better for many teens and young adults. Gen Z as a society has been exposed to unrealistic beauty standards, cyber bullying, and modern day racism. With all this going on many people have developed many mental health issues as well as insecurities. Due to this standard many celebrities have held up not many teens and young adults can find a realistic role model. Music has become a big inspiration and role model for many people lately with people being able to understand and feel the emotions not many people can describe due to them being too scared to or not having the right words to explain their true emotions.
Many musical artists are able to word the way many people feel and give the listeners the sense of comfort and being heard during these tough times. A lot of music these days become very explicit and not many can relate to it. When we listen to music we are influenced by what messages are spread through the lyrics and will shape us to who we will be as an individual. Our beliefs are being reflected through what we listen to and message we decide to spread throughout our life. Although it is hard to find many artists who write music in the way that gives many people comfort there are still many out there. Artists such as BTS, Lizzo, and Harry Styles promote the most self loving and self positivity through their music and who they are as people.
BTS’s Influence through Music
It all begins with an idea.
BTS is a Kpop group from South Korea debuting back in 2013 with their debut song No More Dream. They gained millions of fans but didn’t reach their hit fame till 2017 due to the group attending the Billboard Music Awards. Since then the group has been only going up and there seems to be no stopping point for the hit group. From creating music that inspires millions to collaborating with UNICEF BTS’s impact on this new generation doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.
In 2017 BTS and UNICEF came together to create the Love Myself campaign in hope to sponsor a campaign that has been going on for a while called #ENDviolence. The Love Myself campaign is spreading the message of love and a better place to live for all. The members of BTS have given back to society by making donations to local communities and by doing so it has inspired their fans to make the same donations around the world. The funds raised through the first official campaign will be used to protect and support children and teen victims of domestic and school violence also including sexual assault around the world. It has provided an education to local communities for violence protection. They have used their voices in the United Nation to speak on many important topics. Back in 2018 member RM, the leader of the group, shed light on his struggles with becoming who he is today. He then proceeded to discuss the topic of speaking yourself. He began an important message through this speech, “No matter who you are, where you’re from, your skin color, your gender identity, just speak yourself. Find your name and find your voice by speaking yourself.”. This has helped a lot of teens and children share their stories and hardships.
Although their messages outside of music has inspired many to speak up, the biggest influence that they have on their fans has to come from their music and what message they want to spread through each song. Their song Answer: Love Myself shows how BTS individually learned to love who they were through their fans loving what BTS considered a “flaw”. In verse 1 rapper Suga discussed how it’s hard to love yourself when it’s easier to love others. “Loving myself might be harder
, Than loving someone else, let's admit it. The standards you made are more strict for yourself.” shows how he believes that loving others will never be a struggle since there is never a standard set but on the other hand you have a set high standard for yourself so you want to match that standard and put on a mask to who you truly are. This is a big struggle many people deal with and BTS shows that being able to love yourself is possible with how connected they feel with their fans. You can see this with many of the newer music they release.
BTS released their BE album November 2020 that shows many different emotions that they have felt during the Covid-19 pandemic. The song Life Goes On perfectly shows how although we may struggle with many different things it is all temporary and in the end we will be able to move past it. “One day, the world stopped, Without any warning, Spring didn’t know to wait, Showed up not even a minute late.”, this song refers to the sudden lockdown the entire world went through and shows how this was only the beginning of everything. Going deeper into the pandemic rapper RM mentions the feeling of pain and hopelessness, “Running faster than that cloud of rain, Thought that’d be enough, Guess I’m only human after all, I’m in a world of pain”. Going deeper into the lyrics the rapper uses the metaphor ‘black cloud’ being the source of all gloom and sorrow, there is no way to escape these feelings. The metaphor ties in the sadness and hopelessness throughout the song. BTS reference a lot of real world questions such as wether a tree falls in the forest and there’s no one there to hear it, does it make a sound? “Like an echo in the forest, The day will come back around, As if nothing happened” BTS is making the point that once a problem is fixed, such as a global pandemic that is constantly discussed, people usually continue on with their lives. This specific lyric ties back into the name of the song of life going on and our current problems won’t be there forever.
BTS use real world issues to write their music so its not only relatable to them but to their listeners as well. They can use a lot of their emotions to help portray the emotions their listeners can’t describe themselves. This can help a lot of young listeners find who they truly are in the end. So many artists nowadays aren’t writing music like how BTS writes theirs. BTS aren’t the only group who write music based off of their own experiences. Other artists such as Lizzo spreads a wider range of positivity to teens and young women.
Lizzo’s impact towards People of All Ages
It all begins with an idea.
There doesn’t seem to be a specific time when Lizzo gained her massive fame but she’s released multiple hit records and played massive shows. She is known for spreading mass positivity involving body positivity and mental positivity. Lizzo brings up topics on LGBTQ+ as she is apart of the community herself. She shows that you don’t have to categorize your sexuality or gender. Lizzo is able to discuss a wide variety of topics through her platform as well as through her music. Her music plays a big part of the message she wants to spread.
Lizzo released her hit song “Good as Hell” back in 2016. This song discusses big topics such as moving on from big life changes. In verse 1 she begins with “Go on, dust your shoulders off, keep it moving.”, she is showing that it’s ok to let yourself fall but once you hit the ground it’s better to get back up and move on in life. This can help a lot of people who have gone through a rough time and don’t have the motivation to move on from the situation. To continue this she goes on to say, “Come now, come dry your eyes, You know you a star, you can touch the sky, I know that its hard, but you have to try.”. Lizzo shows that she knows things are hard but it’ll get better as you move on in life and you just need the motivational push. A big push for many people is to give them comfort when freshly getting out of a relationship that wasn’t right for them. “If he don’t love you anymore, Just walk your fine a** out the door.”, this shows that you can do better than be with a person who’s love is one sided and you need to find self worth. The reoccurring topic of self worth is seen in this song and a lot more of her other songs. It pushes people of all ages to learn to love themselves before they can love someone else just as much.
Although there are many songs Lizzo has released that discuss a wide range of messages, the ones that stick most to people this generation is her self positivity lyrics. Lyrics such as “Mirror, mirror on the wall, tell me what you see/ It’s that. oh my God, it’s lookin’ heavenly” and “I am my inspiration, I am my inspiration” can help many people make changes in their lives and influence them to become a better version of themselves. If people listened to Lizzo’s lyrics and incorporate it in their everyday lives they can see changes in their lives, see their self love start to grow and can help themselves during hard periods of their lives. The more people hear these sort of affirmations the more they start to live through those said words and the more they start to become independent.
Harry Styles Treat People With Kindness
It all begins with an idea.
Harry Styles rose to fame with his hit boyband One Direction back in 2010. Starting from the show ‘The X Factor’, Harry Styles has massed millions of fans. Departing from One Direction in 2016 Styles signed with his own record label only a few months later. His first solo album hit Billboard ‘US Billboard 200’ and he later went on tour. Harry Styles has many achievements throughout his career since 2010 but there are two major ones that stand out the most to not only his fans but to many people around the world.
As people are fighting for LGBTQ+ rights, Harry Styles is no stranger to help those who struggle. He is a long-standing advocate of equality and an avid supporter of the community. He shows his love and support by waving the pride flag on stage at many of his concerts. Styles made a speech at one of his shows in Stockholm, Sweden back in November 2017 saying “If you are black, if you are white, if you are gay, if you are straight, if you are transgender — whoever you are, whoever you wanna be — I support you, I love every single one of you.”, this shows that he has love for people as they are and is opened to allowing people to express themselves. He is also no stranger to supporting organizations such as “Little Princess Trust” and “Young Survival Coalition”. Back in 2016 as Styles was going out his hair he suddenly made the decision to chop off his hair for his role in Christopher Nolan’s film Dunkirk. He then decided to donate the chopped hair to Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides wigs to children who’ve lost their hair during the cancer treatment process.
Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
